Our next stop will be Mycenae, which is one of the definite highlights of this full-day private tour. Mycenae was a fortified late Bronze Age city and the center of the Mycenaean civilization between 1600-1100 BC.

Mycenae was the birthplace of the Mycenaean civilization and its archaeological site proves the importance and grandeur that this city-state used to have in Ancient Greece. The gigantic Lion’s Gate, the Cyclopean Walls, and the impressive arched Royal Tombs will stay in your memory for a long time! The Lion’s Gate is the main entrance to the Bronze Age citadel of Mycenae, erected around 1250 BC.

Exploring Nafplion

The private tour will continue towards Nafplion, the lovely Venetian town of Argolis Prefecture that used to be the first capital city of modern Greece in the 19th century. Nafplion was an important seaport held under a succession of royal houses in the Middle Ages as part of the lordship of Argos and Nauplia.

We will have the time to see the imposing fortress of Palamidi that stands above the town and enjoy a nice, leisurely walk in the streets of the town, where you can see the authentic old houses of the town, but also an impressive variety of local shops that sell all kinds of handmade objects and jewelry.

In Nafplion, we will also enjoy our lunch in the countryside (own pay).

As the afternoon approaches, you will make your way to Olympia, where you can enjoy a relaxed evening and spend the night at your leisure.

Olympia; The Olympics Begins

The second day of the tour finds you in Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, the most important and prestigious athletic institution since antiquity.

The Olympic Games were dedicated to Zeus and are still today the starting point of the Olympic Flame before the Games.

You will visit the archaeological site where you can see the actual track – and run it if you want – the Olympic Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Olympia.

After this exciting morning, the tour will continue towards Delphi; you will cross by 20 minutes short cruise from Rio to Antirrio in order to admire the largest cable bridge in Europe, you will pass by the beautiful town of Nafpaktos and you will soon get to Delphi.

You will spend your free evening in Arachova where you will enjoy a tasteful dinner (optional) and then spend the night in Delphi.

As the newly risen sun shines on the third day of our tour, we are about to visit the famous place called Delphi. This sacred place, dedicated to Apollo, has been known for giving oracles that changed the fate of all those who sought for help.

During our exploration, make sure that you do not miss out on the important Museum of Delphi which contains some of the greatest sculptures in Greece, for instance, Naxian Sphynx, and Charioteer which is made up bronze among others. As we go ahead with our expedition there also lies an astounding Temple of Apollo as well as Gymnasium’s Temple of Athena Pronea which is exactly a given point in Delphi. Time for lunch on a light scale followed by moving to notable Meteora. The 7th day takes you a trip to Macedonian history; visit the town of Dion, the ancient place of worship of Zeus, which emerged in the late 5th century. B.C. is the official religious center of Macedonia in North Greece.

Also, the seventh day of the tour is the return day; we will take the route backcrossing the Valley of Tempi and the Thessaly plain, and we will pass by Thermopylae, another known town of the North, the famous Hot Gates of the 300.

On the seventh day of the tour, we will also visit Dion which was one of the significant religious centers in ancient Greece. The ancient city of Dion is located at the foot of Mount Olympus, in Greece and brims with a lot of history, myth and intrigue. The date can be traced back to the 5th century BC when it was a thriving center for Zeus worship, king of gods. Today it bears a resemblance to an archaeological site that is supposed to be a door into the past where tourists can go back in time by themselves and examine what is left of once flourishing civilization.
Dion never limited itself to being just a religious site; but also served as an area for cultural exchange as well as political activities during her own time. The city comprised temples, theatres, public structures among others that exhibited wealth and power possessed by the people living there. When you tread around these ruins you seem to hear ancient ceremonies’ sounds while people appealing for divine favor had left their footprints on them.
Dion’s Treasures Unearthed.
