A Few Words about Paros

Paros, known for its exceptional Parian marble since ancient times, has been used to create iconic sculptures. Notable examples include the Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus de Milo, displayed in the Louvre Museum in Paris. Additionally, the statue of Hermes by Praxiteles resides in the Museum of Ancient Olympia in Greece. Despite its scenic beauty and cultural significance, Paros often goes unnoticed on shorter cruises due to its less prominent status compared to larger Cycladic islands like Mykonos and Santorini.

Just five miles across the Aegean Sea, Naxos is often compared to Paros, as Lawrence Durrell describes in his book: “Naxos and Paros co-exist in the mind as similarly charming and significant.” Paros offers great dining and a vibrant nightlife that’s less glamorous than Mykonos or Santorini, but still perfect for travelers seeking a party atmosphere.

Notable beaches on Paros include: Chrissi Akti Beach, Kolimbithres, Laggeri, Megalo Piperi, Piso Livadi and Santa Maria Beach. All beaches on Paros and neighboring Antiparos have been awarded the Blue Flag designation by the European Union.

Athens to Paros: An enchanting, unforgettable adventure.

Pick up from your hotel in Athens around 06:00 a.m. to transfer you to Piraeus Port for embarkation on the Blue Star Ferry to Paxos passing through the Aegean islands of Tinos and Mykonos arriving at approx. 13:30 at the port of Paros.

As you approach the port of Paros, you’ll encounter a glimpse of ancient Greece through the sculptures, paintings, and poets who originated from the island of Paros. Paros has been a thriving center of administration and trade in the Aegean Sea.

After checking into your hotel, head out to explore Paroikia’s charming village. During the summer months, the lively alleys fill with tourists browsing shops, dining in traditional tavernas, and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. Don’t miss the impressive Church of Panagia Ekatontapyliani or Katapoliani, a remarkable landmark from the Early Christian period.

Paros island

Uncover the secrets that lie within Paros

Paros Island, located in the heart of the Cyclades, captivates travelers with its unique blend of modern and traditional charm. It boasts pristine beaches with shimmering waters and breathtaking landscapes that leave a lasting impression. Visitors will find a well-established tourism infrastructure that complements the natural beauty of the island, ensuring an unforgettable holiday experience.

In ancient times, Paros was renowned for its pristine white marble deposits. Parian marble, known for its exceptional quality, was widely used in architecture and sculpture, especially during the Golden Age of Greece. Notable masterpieces crafted from this translucent white marble include the Hermes of Praxiteles, the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the Nike of Paionios, and the Caryatids, the exquisite maidens that adorned the Erechtheion in Athens. These sculptures exemplify the extraordinary artistry made possible by Parian marble.
