Corfu Overview

Corfu, also known as Kerkyra in Greek, stood apart from the rest of Greece as it never came under Ottoman rule. The island’s history was shaped by Venetian, French, and British dominations, making it more aligned with Western rather than Levantine influences. These powers left a significant mark on the island’s culture, leading to the establishment of the first Greek University, the Ionian Academy, along with the first Philharmonic Orchestra and School of Fine Arts. Let yourself be enchanted by Corfu’s ancient landmarks, diverse cultural legacy, and breathtaking natural scenery.
