Description
Description of Samaria Gorge from Chania, Crete
Experience a guided 16 km hike through the longest and most impressive limestone gorge of Europe. This is a magnificent example of Crete’s many gorges, starting from the White Mountains down to the Libyan sea.
Start our adventures excursion leaving early in the morning passing through several beautiful villages to arrive at the plateau of Omalos.
Our hike will last approximately 6 hours and will take us – along a breathtaking and constantly changing landscape – down to Agia Roumeli, a fishing village by the South coast, accessible only by boat. So it’s a serious trek that’s not for the unfit or faint-hearted. But you will have the chance to experience this must-see natural phenomenon at a slower pace, attended to by a specialized guide.
At the base of the gorge, you can enjoy a refreshing swim, as well as lunch at one of
the local tavernas.
After an hour’s sail to the nearby port, you will be transferred back to Chania city.
