The Journey Begins: from Athens to Corinth Canal
The half-day wine tour starts in the morning from Athens. Your private driver will drive you along the coastal road of Attica towards the Corinth Canal, where you will have the chance to admire the breathtaking views of the sea and get some truly marvelous pictures.
The Corinth Canal, completed in 1893, connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. The canal is 6.4 kilometers long, 24.6 meters wide at its base, and has a depth of 8 meters, making it impassable for most modern ships.
Discovering Nemea
After the short stop, the half-day tour will continue towards Nemea, an area known for its Games (Nemean Games), that took place every two years, while the Olympic Games every four. The Nemean games included gymnastics, horse riding, music, and drama – some of the most known tragedies were presented during the Games in Nemea.
The Games took place in the premises of the Temple of God Zeus, whose ruins have been discovered during the excavations and are available to see today. There are traces of the gymnasium, the palaestra, and the Roman baths, as well as the original stadium of the Games.
The Wineries of Nemea
Nemea, one of the main wine-producing regions in Greece, is renowned for its amazing wineries and the production of famous and tasteful red wines, particularly from the Agiorgitiko grape variety. This local grape, known for its special taste and aroma, has a history dating back 4,500 years.
The region’s unique microclimate, characterized by a valley surrounded by mountains, mild cold winters, and warm, relatively dry summers, along with the clay soil ideal for drainage and fertility, contributes to the production of the legendary Nemea wine. The location of the vineyards at an altitude of 350-400 m and the humidity from the mythical river Asopus create a distinctive terroir that shapes the character of these wines.

- Opening Hours and Entrance Fees for Archaeological Sites and Museums in Greece
- Entrance Fees for Children from Non-EU Countries: Starting November 1st, 2019, children aged 6 and above from non-European Union (non-EU) countries will be required to pay the full entrance fee for Museums and Archaeological sites. For children from EU countries, the existing rates remain in effect. However, it is crucial to have their passports readily available to prove their nationality.
