2. Great Sphinx

3.  Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu)

The Great Pyramid of Cheops (also known as Khufu) is a cultural treasure that holds the only fully intact depiction of the king. This exquisite portrait, a mere three inches tall, was discovered amidst the temple ruins of Abydos in 1903, long after Khufu’s reign. Sadly, many other representations and structures in honor of Khufu were only found in fragments or are now completely lost. 4. Khafre’s Pyramid

The pyramid complex of Khafre boasts a striking array of structures, including a valley temple, a Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and of course, the king’s pyramid. The valley temple itself has proven to be a treasure trove, containing numerous statues of Khafre. These precious artifacts were discovered by Mariette in 1860, when he stumbled upon them at the bottom of a well hidden within the temple’s floor. And the exploration of this site did not stop there. Over the years, successive excavations by renowned scholars such as Sieglin, Junker, and Reisner have uncovered even more of Khafre’s illustrious statues, each one shedding new light on the life and reign of this enigmatic ruler. In fact, the combined efforts of these esteemed excavators have totaled an impressive 30 minutes of exploration time.

5. Menkaure Pyramid

Menkaure’s pyramid complex is comprised of a grand valley temple, a majestic causeway, a solemn mortuary temple, and the illustrious king’s pyramid. Imposing statues of Menkaure, the powerful king, once graced the valley temple. In the 5th Dynasty, an ante-temple was seamlessly integrated into the valley temple, adding to its grandeur. The mortuary temple, too, has unearthed several impressive statues of Menkaure. A mere 30 minutes is all it takes to marvel at the legacy of this ancient pharaoh.

  • As visitors roam through the Egyptian Museum, they should expect to cover about 1 1/2 miles of ground, which may take around 3 1/2 hours. Keep in mind that the terrain consists of varying surfaces, from rocky cobblestone to smooth pavement, as well as a few sandy stretches and approximately 30 wide, flat flights of stairs. While taking in the wonders of the museum, please refrain from using cameras.
