Description

Description of our 4 days private tour in Greece

Day 1: Athens, Delphi, Kalambaka, Meteora

Delphi
Delphi

The first day of the tour starts from Athens; make sure you are packed and ready early, because a long day awaits you. We will be driving through the scenic national road towards Central Greece, and a couple of hours later we will pass by the picturesque village of Arachova, situated at the feet of Mt Parnassus, before arriving at the nearby Delphi.

Delphi is one of the major stops of this tour; known in the ancient years as the center (navel) of the Earth, Delphi was a divine place, as God Apollo had chosen it to establish his sanctuary.

The Oracle of Apollo gave ambiguous responses to the people who were flocking there to ask a question about a personal or city issue.

In Delphi, you will visit the archaeological site, the ancient theatre, and of course, the museum where you will see the famous Naxian Sphinx, the Twin Brothers, and the Charioteer of Delphi, also known as Eniochos.

After a lunch stop in Delphi, we will continue our tour driving towards Kalambaka and Meteora. Overnight at Kalambaka.

Day 2: Kalambaka, Meteora, Vergina

Meteora Monastery
Meteora Monastery

The second day of the tour starts with an exciting tour of the Byzantine monasteries of Meteora. The complex of the Monasteries is the second largest in Europe, after the Monasteries of Athos in North Greece.

All the monasteries were built from the 11th century and on and are still housing monks and nuns. However, Meteora Monasteries are not important just because of their age and history, but also for their location. Built upon huge rock formations, they give the impression of suspended buildings (Meteora in Greek), creating a visual phenomenon you will love.

After the visit to Meteora, you will enjoy lunch in the area and then head towards Vergina, passing by the impressive mountain line of Pindos.

Vergina is the place where the golden star of Macedonia was found, and where lies the tomb of King Philip, father of Alexander the Great.

Overnight in Vergina or Veroia.

Day 3: Vergina, Pella, Litochoron, Mt. Olympus

After enjoying your breakfast, it’s time to set off and visit the Royal Tombs and the summer palace of the Macedonian Kings, where Alexander spent his first years of youth.

The private tour will then continue towards Pella, the actual birthplace of Alexander, where you can visit the archaeological museum with all the artifacts and remains of the Macedonian Empire.

After lunch, the tour will bring you to Mt Olympus, the residence of the twelve Gods of ancient mythology.

Overnight at one of the most gorgeous villages located at the feet of Olympus, Litochoron.

Day 4: Litochoron, Mt. Olympus, Thermopylae, Athens

The fourth day of the tour will begin with a scenic drive towards Dion, the sanctuary of God Zeus.

You will also see the ancient theatre of Dion, which operates till today, presenting theatrical and musical plays in the summer months.

After Dion, it’s time to head back, passing by Thermopylae, the place where King Leonidas and his 300 men showed the brave and audacious Greek character, fighting the millions of Persian invaders.

The tour ends late in the afternoon in Athens.
