Description of the 7 days private tour to the Peloponnese and North Greece

Day 1: Athens, Corinth Canal, Ancient Corinth, Mycenae, Nafplion, Olympia

If you are packed and ready, the tour starts early in the morning from Athens with a direction westwards, towards the coastal road of Athens that will lead you to Corinth Canal which offers breathtaking views of the Aegean and the Ionian Sea.

After a short stop there for the avid photographers, the tour will soon bring you to Ancient Corinth, one of the most distinguished city-states in Ancient Greece, which was also the place of residence for two years of St Paul during his stay in Greece.

At Corinth, you will visit the Ancient Agora and Apollo’s Temple dating back to the 6^th B.C, and the ancient port of Kechreai where St. Paul disembarked.

The tour will then continue to Mycenae, the capital of the Mycenaean civilization. At the Archaeological site of Mycenae, you will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Tombs of the Kings.

Our next stop at Nafplion, the picturesque town of Argolis which was also the first capital of modern Greece. You will admire the fortress of Palamidi overlooking the town and stroll around its cobblestone paths with the small shops. We will have Lunch in Nafplion before our departure to Olympia.

In the afternoon, we will be driving towards Olympia, where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Olympia, Patras, Rio, Antirrio, Nafpaktos, Arachova, Delphi

The second day of the tour finds you in Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, the most important and prestigious athletic institution since antiquity. The Olympic Games were dedicated to Zeus and are still today the starting point of the Olympic Flame before the Games. You will visit the archaeological site where you can see the actual track – and run it if you want – the Olympic Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Olympia.

 

After this exciting morning, the tour will continue towards Delphi; you will cross by 20 minutes short cruise from Rio to Antirrio in order to admire the largest cable bridge in Europe, you will pass by the beautiful town of Nafpaktos and you will soon get to Delphi.

You will spend your free evening in Arachova where you will enjoy a tasteful dinner (optional) and then spend the night in Delphi.

Day 3: Delphi, Amphissa, Lamia, Trikala, Kalambaka, Meteora

 

The third day of the tour starts again with a morning full of sightseeing rush!

You will visit the sanctuary of God Apollo and the place where the Oracle gave her prophecies, the ancient theatre, the Museum in Delphi with the impressive artifacts, the Athenian treasury, and the temple of Athena Pronaia.

Later, you will head towards Kalambaka, crossing the fertile Thessalian plain and important cities such as Amphissa, Lamia, Trikala before arriving at Kalambaka which rests at the feet of Meteora.

Dinner and Overnight in Kalambaka, or Kastraki.

Day 4: Meteora, Veroia

Visit the Byzantine monasteries of Meteora, built on the top of the suspended rocks, between earth and sky, and admire the willingness of the monks and nuns who have chosen this refuge on earth.

Not all monasteries are open each day, therefore if you wish to visit one, in particular, make sure you notify your driver in advance.

After the visit and lunch, the private tour sets off for Veroia the oldest Macedonia ancient city since 2.700 BC that still holds still the same name. , Well-known for the “Steps” of Apostle Paul, it’s the place where Paul preached during his 2 visits to Veroia, around 50-51 AD and 57 AD, the Jewish neighborhood of Veria  Barbouta – Tripotamos,  The landmark of Veria is Elia Park with its centuries-old trees.

Free evening and overnight in Veroia.

Day 5: Veroia, Vergina, Pella, Thessaloniki

The morning starts with a tour to Vergina, where you will see the Vergina Treasures, reminiscent of the great past of the Empire and the Tomb of King Phillip, and then a visit to Pella, the capital city of Alexander’s Macedonia.

Enjoy your lunch in a traditional Greek tavern and return to Thessaloniki. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 6: Thessaloniki

After breakfast we’ll pick you up from the hotel for a sightseeing tour in the city; visit the Museum, the city center, each alluring seaside, and enjoy a free evening in the city that boasts a unique nightlife.

After a day full of images and historical experiences, you will return to the hotel.

Overnight in Thessaloniki

Day 7: Thessaloniki, Dion, Thermopylae, Athens

The 7^th day takes you a trip to Macedonian history; visit the town of Dion, the ancient place of worship of Zeus, which emerged in the late 5th century. B.C. is the official religious center of Macedonia in North Greece.

Also, the seventh day of the tour is the return day; we will take the route backcrossing the Valley of Tempi and the Thessaly plain, and we will pass by Thermopylae, another known town of the North, the famous Hot Gates of the 300.

Our private tour ends in Athens late in the afternoon.
