Description of the 11 days tour in South and North Greece

Day 1: Athens, Levadia, Arachova, Delphi, Lamia, Trikala, Kalambaka, Meteora

Get ready for an exciting and full day, starting early in the morning from Athens and driving towards central Greece and Delphi.

Pass by Levadia and the picturesque village of Arachova and arrive in Delphi for the first sightseeing part of this tour.

Delphi was the Sanctuary of God Apollo and is still one of the most impressive sites in Greece; visit the Museum of Delphi that houses artifacts and statues such as the bronze Charioteer, the Naxian Sphinx, the Twin Brothers.

Visit also the Archaeological site of Delphi, along with the Temple of God Apollo. Do not miss the trademark of Delhi, the temple of Athens pronea.

After lunch, the tour continues towards Lamia and Trikala, crossing the plain of Thessaly and reach Kalambaka late in the afternoon.

Spend the night with a great view of Meteora.

Day 2: Meteora, Tempi valley, Katerini, Thessaloniki

The second day of the tour starts with a visit to the breathtaking Meteora monasteries, whose name derives from their architecture and formation, meaning suspended.

Meteora monasteries date back to the 11th century AD and are the second most important complex of Monasteries in Europe and Greece after Athos.

After the exciting tour to Meteora head to Thessaloniki, crossing the Tempi Valley. Thessaloniki is an alluring city and the capital of Northern Greece. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki.

 

Day 3: Thessaloniki, Pella, Vergina, Veria, Kavala

The third day of the tour starts with a visit to the capital city of ancient Macedonia, Pella, and the place where Alexander the Great started his empire.

Head to Vergina to see the tombs of the Macedonian Kings, among which the Tomb of King Philip II, father of Alexander.

After the sightseeing tour, we will head towards Kavala for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Kavala

Kavala lies between the rivers Nestos and Strymon, who form its natural boundaries.

Kavala is built on the slopes of the mountain “Symbol” and is a city that many people classify among the most beautiful and picturesque of our country because of its unique character, its privileged location, and the warm and friendly atmosphere.

You will have the chance to wander around its streets and also visit the castles & the museums of the city including the Archaeological Museum, the Municipal Museum, the castle of Kavala, the citadel at Philippi, the tower at Apollonia, Τhe castle at Orfani. Overnight in Kavala

 

Day 5: Kavala, Thasos

A beautiful day starts and what is more exciting than a day tour to an island? From Kavala port, we travel to the gorgeous and green island of Thasos, known for its lush greenery and beautiful beaches that you will have the chance to experience yourself, and swim in its blue water sandy beaches.

Return to Kavala in the afternoon and overnight.

Day 6: Kavala, Xanthi, Alexandroupolis

After breakfast, the tour will bring you to the city of Xanthi, a city in Thrace, the capital of the homonym province, built at the foot of the Rhodope Mountains.

Xanthi is the cultural and trading center of the area and stands out due to the harmonious existence of Muslims and Christians who have given this special aura to the city. The modern city is a magnet for every visitor who wants to see the parks, shops, and cafes of the city. When in the city do not miss trying some of the famous throughout Greece sweet pastry such as the Carioca, and saragli. Thrace was also the birthplace of renowned men such as Spartacus and Democritus. Today, Xanthi is known as the City of a thousand colors and each visitor understands why just walking in the town.

After the visit to Xanthi head towards Alexandroupolis where you will be spending the evening.

Day 7 : Alexandroupolis, Delta of River Evros

Leave the hotel to explore Alexandroupolis, the capital of the Evros area, with the vast array of natural beauties and phenomena.

Alexandroupolis is the eastern border of Europe, a city built between sea and land, between Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria, at the crossroads of cultures. Its most distinctive characteristic is the existence of two major Rivers, Evros and Nestos that have been flowing since the ancient years, cutting through the city.

Evros Delta is one of the most astonishing natural landscapes you will ever see; more than 300 protected species of birds live here, while 200,000 wild water-birds spend their winter here, making the Delta a Special Protection Area (SPA) part of the Natura 2000 network.

Day 8: Alexandroupolis, Samothrace

The 8th day of the tour will be an experience for you; we will travel to the island of Samothrace, a unique island of North Greece, with the tallest mountain in the Aegean Sea, Mount Saos & the biggest plane in Greece.

Samothrace is characterized by lush vegetation, crystal clear waters, hot spring and waterfalls, picturesque villages, and areas that set up an amazing landscape. Beautiful streams and rivers and springs in a lush green compose at least a paradise, environment for the visitor.

Here is also where the Kaviria Mysteries took place emitting power and energy. Samothrace was the sanctuary of the Gods, and a number of relics and ruins prove it. The famous Nice of Samothrace, found today in Louvre, was discovered here. In the afternoon take the ferry back to Alexandroupolis and head towards Orestiada for the night.

Day 9: Orestiada – Didimotichon –Turkey Adrianoupolis (Edirne)

After breakfast, spend some time in Orestiada, the northwest town in Greece, and take some great pictures of the Ardas River and its bridges before crossing the borders to Turkey.

The tour will bring you to Adrianoupolis (Edirne in Turkish) which was built by King Agamemnon’s son. It was named after the Emperor Hadrian of the Byzantine Empire. Until 1922 this was a Greek city, but was conquered by the Turks and is part of Turkey today.

Day 10: Orestiada, Demotica, Xanthi, Kavala, Thessaloniki, Katerini

After breakfast, we will drive to Didymoteichon (Demotica), one of the most important cities of the Byzantine Empire. It was a fortress city seized by Barbarossa in the 12th century.

The private tour will continue to Katerini and you will have the chance to visit Dion and enjoy its amazing waters. Overnight in Katerini

Day 11: Katerini, Tempi Valley, Larissa, Lamia, Thermopylae, Athens

The 11th day of the tour is the return day. Crossing the valley of Tempi pass by Larisa, Lamia, and Thermopylae, where the 300 fought the Persian invaders (Battle of Thermopylae).

Return to Athens late in the evening.
